For Today

This idea was inspired by this lovely crafting blog The Pleated Poppy. And she was inspired by someone else! Don't you love how ideas are handed down?

Outside my window... it is dark at 9, which means summer has gone and fall has come! Time for scarves and sweatshirts and jeans!

I am thinking... that maybe Jacob Dillon(co-Executive Editor of newspaper)is right and I do need a day off from newspaper...

I am thankful for... Right now, water! Half of Lockwood has none flowing to their homes, but luckily, we do. We may not have great water pressure, but we do have water

from the kitchen... Umm... I don't cook. Dad made stew though. I have been thinking about making pie filling out of the two bags of apples sitting in my kitchen though

I am wearing... Austin's old PJ pants and a Skyview volleyball shirt. It is amazing how many of those I have collected even though I was only on the team for a year!

I am creating... Oh God, this list is always a mile long. I finished a few bandanna aprons(I am wildly pleased with them!), still working on the scrappy quilt, the snowflake ornaments, and about 10 other things. Bad question, moving on!

I am reading... Oh great, this list is a mile long too! I am reading on my own, My Antonia, for English I am reading As I Lay Dying, and for Spanish I am reading La Phantasma de Canterville. I think that's all. Unless you count a chapter of psych and a chapter of interpersonal communications!

I am going...to bed soon enough. School tomorrow, but we do have half days, so Aus and I get a date!

I am hoping... that the paper gets put out without a hitch. But I need to stop thinking of newspaper.

I am hearing... someone's account of a murder on Law and Order CI. Love that show! I do like SVU better though.

Around the house... well, my part of the house is actually clean for me. Which is nice for a change. And I found a place for my little red wagon I adore!(it is on my hope chest now)

One of my favorite things... creating something with my hands that makes me feel proud to be a crafter. I love that feeling.

A few plans for the rest of the week... Well, this weekend is too big of an explanation for now, but I am looking forward to my date tomorrow, just not finishing my interpersonal comm. homework!

A picture to share...

Kinda of a cute senior pic, right? I love it!

Well, goodnight everyone! I kinda like this post.... might make it a reoccuring event!

Return of the crafts

Ahh it feels like forever since I have posted.... or crafted. I think I have posted more recently than I have crafted. But you know what I mean. The last time my sewing machine was used was for my toga!

Look, my beauty has fallen to the wayside! I am so very much so a stacker... I don't really clean, I just stack.

Alright, back to the crafting part:) I am intending to use these lovelies

To make bandana aprons such as those that Martha makes. Must love Martha :P I was wandering through Walmart today, looking for a weiner dog(after 3 stores I finally found it!) and I saw these bandanas and thought they would be perfect gifts. This is my favorite fabric :) I think if I match a cute apron or two with some recipe cards or some sort of mixing utensils I would have a nice little gift. And at the mention of gift, do I hear you scrolling down for more ideas? Well, I better because I have found some more!

  • These little criss-cross coasters are rather cute, and just imagine them in coordinating Christmas fabrics.
  • I love this little matyroshka doll! I know that it is a tooth fairy pillow, but I know someone who loves these dolls and I think this cutie might find another use as a plain old softie!
  • A tin of yummy Oreo truffles would make a wonderful gift as well, if you're in for a baking adventure.

Well, I think I am going to whip up some aprons... or make quilt some more... or should I embroider ornaments? Hmmm....

TOGA, TOGA, TOGA!!

That is what we all cheered all day long :)

Alright, these are more for fun than for crafting, but I did sew my toga! This is Skyview tradition; on Friday of homecoming, all Seniors must wear a toga, and then everyone signs it! It is actually quite fun, and so much better than our tradition of hazing Freshman.... long story, and since this is my peaceful blog, I won't get into the story!

So the top is my psych class, all dressed up. The bottom is just my buddy Sonja and I.

Pez, Pfaff and I!

My toga is actually just one long, giant piece of frabric about 6 1/2 yards long! I just cup up a bunch of different fabircs and sewed them back together so I had a string that alternated between fabric type. It was kinda funny, my psych class did a fashino show to explain how we made our togas, I was the only one to sew my own toga! Everyone else had grandmas and moms do theirs! And once again, sewing pays off! :)

Merry Christmas!(Oh God, already???)

Ahhhh, Christmas is getting close again! Which means, yes, I must start my presents 4 months out from the date... And I will still probably be getting things done on Christmas Eve!

Remember those beatiful ornaments by Florista? I gathered all my supplies and I am ready to make five sets of them, with two little hoops and one big one. I must love Hobby Lobby; I got all my hoops for 6 dollars!!! And luckily, I have lots and lots of denium in all sorts of different colors :)

This will be for my Momma. I plan to quilt inserts for them, and I might even do a few embroidery ones as well. If she's really lucky, I will do a fun(and easy!!!) cross-stitch one as well!!

Want some other gift ideas? Try:

  • These lovely fabric stacking trees! Not only are these super cute, but a great way to use scraps, which I am big on, if you haven't noticed.

  • Or maybe this wonderful iPod Cozy for all your music lovers out there

  • If you are looking for something most tasty look at these most delicous little pies!
  • This cute critter scarf would be wonderful for any kids on your list

If you like these, don't worry, I have been searching endlessly for fun things to make, and will certainly post some more ideas soon! Happy Christmas crafting(in September!)

It's growing!

Look... it grew!
And don't you just love my strange, uncoordinated fabrics? :)

And there seems to be a lot of strawberry fabric... hmmm...

My projects never move this quickly(unless the deadline is a few days away..), so I hope that all of yours are gonig as smoothly!

Start of the scrappy quilt

So, I wanted to take this

and wanted to make this

and this is what it started as,
which later progressed into this.
This is my "scrappy" version of Around the Block which I found in one of Nichole's quilt magazines. In her book it is a baby's blanket, but I did not directly follow the pattern. I cut my stripes going around and around into whatever width I wanted, and I will make it a lot bigger than the intended pattern. As mine is made of my scrap collection, the colors don't exactly match, but I like it that way. This will eventually be a graduation present, so to tie it all together, I will embrodier "2010" on different patches in the same colored thread. I think it will turn out just dandy :)

More weekend fun

So my weekend pictures are a little late, but better late than never, right?
This is one(out of 150!!!!)tablerunners that Peggy is working on. I made sure to let her know that if her nurses(she is the director of nurses at Advanced Care Hospital)don't like them, I sure do....
I don't have a picture of Nichole's finished project, but she is working on another one
of her adorable scrappy quilts, this one being for her Auntie Bonnie.
Even Jordan(Austin's youngest brother)was crafting! Here he is posing with his favorite clay reation-- a ladybug :) And here is my finished shirt project! It turned out wonderfully, and I think it is quite cute. This is Nichole's, but I will make sure to post mine as soon as it is done! I am so excited to wear it, so it'll have to be on soon:) :)
We also took a second day trip, this one up to Woodbine, my absolute favorite campground in the world! Although Aus and I could only go up for the day(boo school), my parents were able to stay until Thursday for my dad's birthday present. What more could one ask for?

This is Dyson, by the by. My lovely Golden Retreiver loves Woodbine just as much as the rest of the family :)

I hope your weekend went as well!!

My little buddy Tramp

Although this is for my psych class, I still think that it is fun to show my little pet off! These are primarily pictures of my chinchilla, Tramp, who is the cute little gray one :) The white little girl is my mother's, and her name is Beauty. All the pics of chew marks are the damage they have left behind!

Three-day escape

Ahhh, three-day weekend! Yesterday the boyfriend and I trekked up to Red Lodge to fish.

Look, I actually caught one! Trust me, that doesn't happen often...Mmmmm... Bogart's Pizza! Notice also, my lovely pile of reject olives. :)
We actually went up to the lake, and it started to rain. That is when we decided it was time for some grub, and decided to come back after the storm, in time to see the two lone ducks who have taken up residence there.

And of course, Aus beat my fish count!!

But no worries, I have not neglected my sewing! Here is one of the shirts that I am starting for Nichole and I. This is hers, with eh design curtosy of Urban Threads! Cute, huh?

Happy crafting all! Hope everyone else is having as good a weekend as I am!

Embroidery eagerness

So on my embroidery hunt, I found a couple more cute images! Wouldn't these be lovely on a set of kitchen towels? If you haven't realized by now, I am partial to birds! I am not sure why, but I really do love the way they look, how graceful they are, the freedom they represent. I found these on Patternbee.com, and there are tons more than these. Plus, they also have information on how to use transfer pens.
This second pattern would be nice for a pillow, if I did a little quilting around it! Also, I found some lovely ornaments on things I've made.
I love the fact that they are done with jean and buttons! I have said before that I am enamoured with buttons, but little did you know that I also have a jean fetish... I collect every one's old jeans obsessively! I am building up to make a cozy jean quilt, but these little ornaments might be worth going through my stash!
Can you tell I am eager to embroider? :)
